The Celts managed to notch up a another win to make two successive wins. The score however does
not reflect a match which The Celts dominated very highly in all departments on the field. The match started positively with
The Celts managing a lot of shots on goal, many off target and the ones which were on target were saved by an impressive keeper.
The first real opportunity came when The Celts were awarded a penalty. Cicchetti stepped up and fired the perfect penalty
into the bottom left hand corner. A fantastic save by the keeper with his extending foot denied Cicchetti and notched up his
first penalty miss for several years.
Within a minute The Celts were awarded another penalty. Cicchetti, handed the reigns to Delaney,
who smashed the ball into the back of the net to put The Celts 1-0 up. Aussie Pride fought back and put a sustained period
of pressure on The Celts which eventually led to a goal, levelling the scores 1-1. The second half started and The Celts dominated
from the whistle. The Celts, especially Cicchetti and Street were having to watch continuous shots whistle wide time and time
again. The Celts were awarded another penalty, and with Cicchetti off the field and Delaney's great penalty attempt in the
first half, he was the ideal choice. Delaney slotted home with minimal ease and notched up his second and put The Celts in
the lead.
The final quarter saw Delaney score his third goal and make him a hat-trick hero after some
nice link up play with Street. The Celts continued to pile on pressure which saw numerous attempts from Cicchetti and Street
sail wide. Cicchetti's obvious frustration was evident when a late challenge on him provoked him to push the opposing player
on the ground and verbally abuse him. In the commencing events Williamson was cautioned for coming to Cicchetti's aid and
getting involved. The card was latter revoked.
The match itself was filled with missed chances and The Celts will find themselves disappointed
to only win by two goals. "The game was not very impressive I must admit. Delaney was the only player who stood out to mind.
Cicchetti considering his performance in the past, and the form which won him his recent award, would have been expecting
to put those routine shots away. Street did everything right until the finish, a player of his quality would have been expecting
much more accurate finishing. At the end of the day though, it is still a win, and it is a credit to the team, when they can
play below par and manage to still win. We will hopefully address the problems during the upcoming break." Johno at the post-match
press conference.
