Celts

The Celts; 1 lost to Got Nothing; 3
27/08/2004

The second game of the season, and suprisingly to the shock and devastation of fans everywhere The Celts lost 3-1 to Got Nothing. This now is The Celts second consecutive loss, and forms a disasterous start to the season. The Celts along with bewildered fans must be wondering when this team of "all stars" as described by 'Football Weekly', will show their worth.

The match itself started off brightly and not much came for either side in the first quarter of the match. The second quarter proved extremely costly for The Celts as laspses again cost them 2 goals in quick succesion from Got Nothing. The Celts tried to respond with multiple attacks which eventuated into nothing. Street's bullet header cannoned off the cross bar, while a wicked shot from Cicchetti rattled the post just before half time.

The third quarter started and The Celts seemed to be gaining a hold on the game, this didnt last long though as through a mistake and a quick counter attack from Got Nothing, The Celts found themselves 3-0 down. The Celts however continued to pile pressure on Got Nothing, and through some slick movement and passing from Delaney and Street, Delaney was able to convert, registering his first goal of the season and The Celts first for the game. The fourth quarter was continuous pressure from The Celts as they continued to try to find a breakthrough. The closest chance came from Cicchetti as he linked up well with Street only to be denied by the post. This was the vibe for most of the game as The Celts through mistakes, bad luck and poor finishing were unable to capatilise on the chances presented their way. The game ended 3-1 with The Celts pondering when their luck will change.

Bad luck however is only an excuse, and the under-par displays from The Celts cannot be excused. Johno was very dissapointed as is expected and wouldnt comment much on the game. "The boys tried hard and put in a much better performance than last week. Its disappointing to see them lose, but it is early in the season and we will be looking to take the positives out of this game and build on these druing the week." Not everyone however was as supportive of the way in which The Celts played on Friday. A spokesman from the Official Celts fan club stated, "With the money these players bring home everyweek, there is no excuse for the lacklusture performances which have been displayed in recent matches. Myself and the rest of The Celts fans hope their performances can be lifted in the coming weeks."

The Celts have so far been disappointing, but with the quality of personnel available this trend is sure to be short lived. The Celts will hope to change their fortunes next week when they take on Shoot Re.
